As Memorial Day approaches and we honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military, it makes me think of the importance of memorials and honorariums as a good fundraising practice.
I love movies and one of my favorite movies is The Hunt for Red October adapted from Tom Clancy’s bestselling book. You remember it – Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, Ed Harris and James Earl Jones. The plot is about the search for a submarine equipped with a stealth propulsion system that makes detection by sonar extremely difficult.
As we turned our clocks forward this past weekend, I realized how much I love this time of year as it’s lighter later and everything comes into bloom. Things are new, young and exciting. I grew up in a household where we took spring cleaning seriously which meant thoroughly cleaning every bit of the house inside and out from windows to curtains, to the attic, taking old clothes to Goodwill and preparing for a garage sale.
Setting goals and benchmarking success through outcomes and impact continues to be a hot topic of conversation for nonprofits and their funders. Both seem to be in a quandary on how to measure success and impact.
