Here Comes The Sun

I am not sure I have ever been more ready for spring and sunshine in my life. Winter brought its typical seasonal elements, but this year also brought the passing of my father in January. I have spent the backend of winter reminiscing about memories of him and the life lessons he taught me. In addition to sharing with me his love for the outdoors, fine whiskey, and The Beatles, he also passed on some life and work themes that I would love to share. Using some Beatles classics as a guide, I have summarized them in a way I think he would have appreciated.

Help!

From Task to Teamwork: "Help!" goes beyond the typical, "I need assistance" plea. The song builds to a powerful call for unity: "We can work it out!" This is a great metaphor for how supporting and uplifting your team can lead to better results. When everyone feels valued and contributes their strengths, the workload becomes lighter, and solutions are found collaboratively.

Don't Let Me Down

Community Matters: "Don't Let Me Down" isn't just a love song; it's about the importance of commitment within a relationship. Apply this to your work community! Every team member plays a vital role. Showing up consistently, being reliable, and fulfilling your responsibilities ensures the team's success. Just like a band relying on each other to hit the right notes, a strong team depends on everyone contributing their part.

Yesterday

Focus on the Present for Daily Wins: "Yesterday" is a beautiful ballad about lost love and the passage of time. While dwelling on past mistakes or missed opportunities can be tempting, the song ultimately reminds us that "yesterday" is gone. Apply this concept to your daily work life. Don't get bogged down by yesterday's setbacks. Instead, focus on what you can achieve today. Set realistic goals and strive to add "wins" to your daily column. This positive approach will not only boost your mood but also lead to greater overall success in the long run.

Twist and Shout

Celebrate the Victories: "Twist and Shout" is pure, unadulterated joy. In the workplace, acknowledging and celebrating achievements, big or small, boosts morale and keeps the team motivated. It shows your appreciation for their hard work and effort. Taking a moment to celebrate fosters a positive and happy work environment, just like letting loose and having fun with your team.

Three days before my dad passed, he shared how proud of me he was as his son, a husband to my wife, dad to his grandchildren, and how much joy that he saw work brought me. I shared with him how he contributed to my life and work successes and promised him that I would continue to live into the wisdom I learned from him. I love you dad and thank you.

Hope sharing some of his wisdom will also be helpful to you. See you down a sunny trail.
