Giving back wasn’t just something my parents talked about, we did it. As a brother to hundreds of foster children, as regular volunteers at local non-profits, and as the “Von-Smith” family singers at nursing homes. Service to the community and giving back was a family core value.
The foundation that my parents laid made an indelible print on my career in practicing law, in financial services and in the nonprofit sector. For more than thirty years I have been privileged to serve my community—on more boards than I can recall, as a volunteer, donor, executive director, and everything in between.
Most recently, I have served as Interim Executive Director/CEO of nonprofits across various industries, including healthcare, education, social service, and fitness/civic centers. My desire is to bring a perspective gained from my legal and financial services background that is valuable to nonprofits in their goal to run the business well, so that they can run the mission well.
When I am not serving nonprofits, you’ll find me either running, playing tennis, playing pickleball or traveling with my best friend and college sweetheart with whom I’ve been deliriously happily married since Reagan was president. We are proud parents of three adult children, a super son-in-law and delightful daughter-in-law.
