Western Carolina Medical Society (WCMS) partnered with Armstrong McGuire during a pivotal time of leadership transition where our interim and executive search services brought stability, renewed focus, and long-term leadership to the organization.
Our approach focused on stabilizing the organization through effective interim leadership, collaboration with the board, and operational improvements. Concurrently, we managed an executive search that prioritized both organizational needs and future sustainability.
Through our Interim Management services, John Lewis, an Armstrong McGuire Interim Institute graduate, stepped into the interim role, working remotely with periodic in-person engagements. He tackled immediate challenges, such as easing federal grant challenges, realigning staff to mission-critical activities, and revitalizing organizational culture. Collaborating with the board, he implemented streamlined contracts and rate structures for the interpreter program. Meanwhile, Senior Advisor Hannah Randall conducted an executive search informed by ongoing insights from John as the interim executive, resulting in the hire of a highly capable permanent executive director. Together, our efforts ensured WCMS emerged stronger and better positioned to serve its community.
Lessons Learned:
"WCMS was very fortunate to hire Karen Wallace-Meigs as its new Executive Director. She is doing an unbelievable job in the wake of devastation from [Hurricane] Helene. I take solace that the work we were able to do during the transition period made it a bit easier for Karen and the WCMS team to deal with this tragic situation."
When leadership transition knocks, an interim leader and an intentional search process can position your organization for success. Armstrong McGuire stands ready to partner with you to unlock your organization’s potential.
Whether you’re ready to expand your organizational capacity and move forward with purpose, or just want to talk shop, we’d love to connect.
